Vicksburg, MS (July 16, 2022) - On Friday, July 15th, at about 3:30 p.m., fire crews from Letourneau and Fisher Ferry Fire Departments responded to the scene of a house fire in the 7000th block of Fisher Ferry Road in Vicksburg.
Responders who were first to arrive reported seeing smoke pouring out of the residence.
Multiple fire units from Warren County also responded to the scene and the crews worked to extinguish the flames before they spread to any neighboring homes. Unconfirmed reports indicate that several ambulances were on the scene and that at least one responder was injured.
Officials said the fire started on the back porch but the cause has not yet been determined.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Structure Fires in Mississippi
Every year, thousands of Mississippi residents are severely injured or killed in residential fires throughout the state. Victims who survive their fire-related injuries must find a way to deal with long hospitalizations and will be incapable of returning to work for a significant amount of time, which will negatively affect every area of their lives.
The most common injuries caused by residential fires include health issues due to smoke inhalation, first, second, and third-degree burns, and even death.
Multiple factors can result in injuries and deaths in residential fires. The most common types of negligence that cause residential fires are:
- A contractor’s or subcontractor’s code violations
- Defective fire suppression equipment
- Inferior flame-retardant materials
- Broken or faulty smoke detectors
- Defective or old electrical wiring.
