Injuries Caused by Mississippi Car Accidents
In a negligence-related crash, a victim can sustain serious injuries that come with long-term consequences. Sadly, vehicle accidents often lead to injuries ranging from serious to catastrophic.
Some of the most common injuries that arise from Mississippi car accidents are:
- Spine/back injuries: Spine and back injuries are some of the most serious. For example, a significant back injury can cause irreparable damage to your spinal cord. If those nerves are damaged, it can cause paralysis. In some cases, you a victim will lose all functionality in their lower extremities. The worst-case scenario for a spine injury ends in quadriplegia, which causes immobility in both arms and legs.
- Head/brain injuries: A common outcome of serious car accidents is a traumatic brain or other head injury caused by the sudden impact and resulting uncontrolled head movement. The impact can cause the victim's head to strike the steering wheel, vehicle frame, dashboard, or deployed airbag resulting in long-term or permanent trauma.
- Broken bones: Broken and fractured bones can range from a tiny, hairline fracture that will heal quickly with minimal medical care to a compound fracture in which the bone has perforated the skin. Compound fractures take a long time to heal and may require multiple surgeries.
- Neck injuries: Neck injuries caused by car accidents are generally referred to as whiplash. This is the most common injury because it can occur in almost any kind of crash, even a low-speed fender-bender. The more serious the car accident, the more long-term complications can arise from increasingly severe cases of whiplash.
