Poplarville, MS (April 27, 2020) – According to officials, a good Samaritan saved a police officer from a fiery crash that took place following a high-speed chase in the town of Poplarville. The incident happened late last Tuesday night, April 21st, at an unspecified time.
Authorities stated that Officer J.D. Herring was chasing a vehicle that was reported to be traveling approximately 50 mph over the posted speed limit. Herring was involved in a crash while attempting to catch up to the suspect and his vehicle burst into flames upon impact.
An unidentified good Samaritan raced to pull Herring from the burning car before medics arrived at the scene. Herring was transported to a nearby hospital with a broken leg among other injuries and is expected to return to duty within one to two months. The incident is under investigation.
