Car Accidents in Oxford

An analysis that was recently conducted of car accident data from the state of Mississippi revealed that in 2013 there were a total of 560 deadly vehicle collisions within the state that were ultimately responsible for the deaths of 615 people.

When the state’s meager population of fewer than 3 million residents was taken into consideration, Mississippi has a yearly average of 22 car accident-related deaths for every 100,000 state residents, which makes it the state with the second-highest vehicular death rate in the United States, just after North Dakota.

The data analysis also showed that an overwhelming portion of car accidents in Mississippi are caused by negligence of one kind or another on the part of one or possibly even both of the drivers involved.

As it applies to a legal situation, an act of negligence is identified by someone failing to recognize and abide by the appropriate duty of care required by their current circumstances. With regards to a car accident, it includes driving recklessly or carelessly or failing to demonstrate due caution.

The four leading causes of the state’s high number of car accidents, based on data published by the Mississippi Department of Transportation, are driving while distracted (particularly texting and driving), driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, failing to obey stop signs and traffic lights, and excessive speeding and/or distracted driving.
