Oxford, MS – John Matthew Ellington Killed in Garbage Truck Crash on US-278Mississippi Legal News
Oxford, MS (March 5, 2021) – Two people were killed and two others injured following a deadly collision with a garbage truck in Oxford on Thursday, March 4.
At around 7:43 a.m., emergency responders were called to the site of the crash near the crossing of US-278 and F. D. Buddy E. Parkway. Two vehicles collided for unknown reasons, a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta and a Panola County 2020 Mack garbage truck. The driver of the Volkswagen, 40-year-old John Matthew Ellington of Oxford, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
A female juvenile was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi but soon succumbed to her injuries. A male juvenile is currently listed in critical condition. The driver of the garbage truck was also hospitalized.
An ongoing investigation into the deadly accident is underway.
