Linwood, MS (August 19, 2021) – Two residents of Newton County lost their lives in the aftermath of a two-vehicle accident outside of Linwood on Monday, August 16. 

Local authorities were notified of the crash at around 12:33 p.m. that afternoon. The scene of the deadly accident was located on MS-15 near County Road 436 in Neshoba County. Initial reports indicated that 21-year-old Oree Carmichael was driving northbound on the highway in a 2011 Jeep Laredo. 

At the same time, 22-year-old Howard Westberry of Conehatta was traveling southbound in a 2005 GMC. Both cars crashed, causing the GMC and the Jeep to leave the roadway. Carmichael and his passenger, 23-year-old Christopher Mulford of Chunky, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Westberry suffered serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene. 

An ongoing investigation into the accident is underway.
