Kiln, MS (May 29, 2022) - On Saturday, May 28th, at about 10:25 p.m., police, and emergency responders shut down Highway 603 between Pontiac Drive and Texas Flat Road due to several simultaneous house fires in the Jourdan River Shores neighborhood of Kiln.
Although the fires were mostly contained by 12:00 a.m., several homes remained too hot to enter. According to eyewitnesses, one home was completely destroyed while another two were also damaged by the fire.
Downed power lines hindered relief efforts by fire crews.
According to officials, two people were killed in the massive structure fires. Their names have not been released pending family notification.
The local sheriff said that one of the houses belonged to a first responder who, along with his family, made it out in time to escape injury.
This investigation is ongoing.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time.
Wrongful Deaths in Mississippi
When someone you love is suddenly killed in an accident that could have been avoided, the consequent mental, physical, and monetary obligations you incur will probably be tremendous. Unfortunately, wrongful deaths can arise from multiple types of accidents. Some of the more common accidents include:
- Motor vehicle collisions
- Defective or dangerous products
- Farming accidents
- Premises liability
- Medical malpractice
- Hunting accidents
- Faulty medical devices
- Workplace injuries or sicknesses
While some wrongful deaths happen immediately at the same moment as the incident, other victims are forced to endure weeks, months, or even years of constant medical care or being hooked up to life support before they finally give in to their injuries.
In these situations, families are not only left to mourn but to figure out how to handle the exorbitant medical bills, as well as the added worries that come with the lack of contributions, financial and otherwise, the deceased is no longer making to the household. Our firm of skilled lawyers works diligently to secure full compensation to cover your many damages including:
- Medical expenses
- Burial costs
- Missing wages
- Loss of companionship
- Pain and suffering
When someone's negligent behavior is especially egregious, the court can also opt to award punitive damages. These damages are designed to act as an extra punishment for the respondent and to dissuade others from behaving in a similar or the same manner.
