Kiln, MS (June 04, 2022) - A couple who were visiting friends of theirs on the Gulf Coast have been identified as the victims of a massive blaze that set multiple homes on fire in Hancock County.
Officials said that 58-year-old Mark Scott Failor and his wife 52-year-old Candace Failor, perished in a house fire that broke out while they were visiting friends for the Memorial Day Weekend in the Jourdan River Shores neighborhood just outside Kiln.
The flames were so intense that they quickly spread to two neighboring homes.
Fire crews are still working to determine the cause of the fire. Their investigation has been heavily deterred by the extent of the damage it caused.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
Autopsies are scheduled to be performed on each victim.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims, Mr. and Mrs. Mark and Candace Failor, at this time.
Burn Injuries in Mississippi
Thousands of people are seriously injured or killed in Mississippi house fires each year. Those lucky enough to survive their fire-related injuries will be forced to undergo an extended hospital stay and will not be able to go back to work for weeks, months, or maybe ever, which will have a serious effect on every part of their lives.
The most common injuries resulting from house fires include third, second, and first-degree burns, health complications due to heavy smoke inhalation, and death.
Many factors can lead to deaths and injuries caused by structure fires. The most frequent forms of negligence that cause these fires are:
- Code violations by a subcontractor or contractor
- Faulty fire suppression devices
- Inadequate flame-retardant products
- Defective or broken smoke alarms
- Outdated or faulty electrical wiring.
