Tractor-Trailer Accidents in Mississippi

Hattiesburg, MS - Man Killed in Collision With Tractor-Trailer on US-49

Although any vehicle collision has the potential to be life-threatening, collisions involving oversized commercial trucks are especially so. Tractor-trailers typically weigh more than 80,000 pounds, and just their massive size is enough to make them particularly dangerous.

These oversized trucks are also challenging to navigate and some of them transport hazardous materials. This is why truck operators and their parent companies have to be very careful. If the operator or company is even the tiniest bit negligent it could cause a severe or even fatal accident.

Along with the inescapable hazards of driving and the usual hazards of the open road, combined with the overall challenge of operating a tractor-trailer, there are specific practices in the field of commercial trucking that could speed up the frequency with which these accidents occur.

For instance, trucking companies regularly stress the importance of a speedy delivery over a safe one. This results in truck operators developing dangerous driving habits in order to cover the distance needed every day to meet their delivery deadlines.
