Hattiesburg, MS (May 6, 2020) – An unidentified man was pronounced deceased two days after he was severely injured during an apartment fire that took place on Sunday, May 3rd. The incident was reported at the Merrimac Apartments on North 25th Avenue in the town of Hattiesburg.
According to officials, the victim was inside an apartment when a fire broke out in an adjacent unit. Firefighters and medical crews responded to the scene around 7:00 p.m. where the man had to jump from a window to escape the blaze. The victim suffered trauma from the jump, as well as smoke inhalation and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The man was pronounced deceased on Tuesday afternoon, May 5th. The official cause of the fire is under investigation.
