Specific and General Damages for Wrongful Deaths in Mississippi
In a Mississippi wrongful death claim, the deceased’s surviving family may be granted recovery for both specific and general damages.
Specific damages are intended to compensate the family for quantifiable and calculable losses. These include medical costs accrued by the victim before their death, funeral costs, the cost of burial or cremation, lost income and other earnings, and property damage.
General damages are meant to act as financial compensation for other forms of damages that are much harder to allocate a dollar amount to, like the pain and suffering the deceased endured before their death, emotional trauma, and loss of companionship.
The forms of recovery you are ultimately awarded and what the total amount will be will hinge mainly on the circumstances of the accident. The surest way to calculate the value of a wrongful death case is to speak with an experienced lawyer.
