Deadly Pedestrian Crashes in Mississippi
The road can be a dangerous place for a pedestrian, and thousands of people are killed traveling on foot each year across the United States. Mississippi has one of the highest rates of pedestrian fatalities in the nation, despite making up the lowest volume of pedestrian travel. A total of 5,977 pedestrians were killed nationwide in 2017. That means a pedestrian was killed on the roads every 88 minutes on average.
Pedestrians are at a serious disadvantage when involved in a crash with a motor vehicle and are more likely to suffer from life-threatening injuries, and this has contributed to a heightened mortality rate for those traveling on foot. Unlike those in passenger cars, pedestrians have little protection from the full impact of an accident, and the resulting injuries can be completely life-changing. Drivers are required to yield the right of way and share the road with pedestrians, but many fail to do so and cause catastrophic crashes. A Hattiesburg pedestrian injury lawyer can help recover financial compensation for your injuries after being hit by a negligent driver.
Few people expect to be seriously injured in a pedestrian accident, but thousands of pedestrians are injured across the state each year and require help to pursue legal compensation for their damages. Many injured parties are unsure of how to seek compensation for their injuries after an accident, and this can lead to complications when pursuing a personal injury claim.
