Clarke Co, MS (May 3, 2021) – A Georgia truck driver was killed after his big rig fell off a Clarke County highway due to a tire failure on Friday, April 30. 

Initial reports indicated that the deadly incident occurred on Interstate 59 NB. An 18-wheeler was traveling northbound on the highway when it experienced a tire failure. This resulted in the truck crashing into an embankment along MS-18 and catching fire. 

The area was closed for several hours while emergency responders were on-site. The truck driver was killed instantly in the accident. The deceased victim was later identified as 55-year-old Russell Hendrix of Chatsworth, Georgia. 

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal accident is in progress.
